Tara – Rural Town Medical and Dental services
Tara is a town located 4 hours by car west of Brisbane, and since 2007, its residents have been looking forward to the annual Tara regional medical and dental fair.
Every dental fair has always brought a sense of wonder, as Tzu Chi volunteers partner with local volunteers to establish over 12 temporary treatment rooms in the local community hall. Medical and Allied health services include Dental, Medical, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Optometry.
The most challenging yet valuable service offered is the fabrication of dentures, allowing town residents who lack teeth to have their smiles restored after the short three-day visit by the team.
Apart from the financial challenges, many mental hardships are faced by residents of the town, and Tzu Chi has allowed love to spread into the community of Tara. Despite each trip requiring over 300 kilometres of travel, the contributions over the years has not only helped to improve the health of its residents, but has also inspired and touched hearts with love.
